** All down sorted logs and no pay logs need a comment or QC code**
Criteria for down sorting (lower pay but not cull/no pay)
- Excessive oversize knots (3”+) on the surface of more than one quadrant of the log or any #3 sawlogs 12”+ in diameter
- Knots that are not flush but still debarkable
- Excessive knots that are not well scattered on more than one quadrant
- Excessive frost breaks on more than one quadrant of the log or spiraling in more than one quadrant
- Excessive hook, sweep, or crook but still debarkable
- Any third scale logs (66.6% defect)
- Excessive mistletoe or sap rot, especially if covering more than one quadrant of the log
Conifer down sorts:
- Douglas-fir: 113/123
- Hemlock/True fir: 213/223
- Western red cedar: 413/423
- Pine and spruce: 513/523
Criteria for no pay logs:
- All culls (less than 1/3 merchantable volume)
- Non-native/miscellaneous species
- Non-debarkable logs (limbs not flush, no straight 8’ segment)
- All logs with metal or metal stain
- All wormy red cedar
No pay conifer sorts:
- Douglas-fir: 119/129
- Hemlock/True fir: 219/229
- Western red cedar: 419/429
- Pine and spruce: 519/529
