** All down sorted logs and no pay logs need a comment or QC code**

Criteria for down sorting (lower pay but not cull/no pay)

    • Excessive oversize knots (3”+) on the surface of more than one quadrant of the log or any #3 sawlogs 12”+ in diameter
    • Knots that are not flush but still debarkable
    • Excessive knots that are not well scattered on more than one quadrant
    • Excessive frost breaks on more than one quadrant of the log or spiraling in more than one quadrant
    • Excessive hook, sweep, or crook but still debarkable
    • Any third scale logs (66.6% defect)
    • Excessive mistletoe or sap rot, especially if covering more than one quadrant of the log

Conifer down sorts:

    • Douglas-fir: 113/123
    • Hemlock/True fir: 213/223
    • Western red cedar: 413/423
    • Pine and spruce: 513/523

Criteria for no pay logs:

    • All culls (less than 1/3 merchantable volume)
    • Non-native/miscellaneous species
    • Non-debarkable logs (limbs not flush, no straight 8’ segment)
    • All logs with metal or metal stain
    • All wormy red cedar

No pay conifer sorts:

    • Douglas-fir: 119/129
    • Hemlock/True fir: 219/229
    • Western red cedar: 419/429
    • Pine and spruce: 519/529
